Please Note: Due to COVID, our program at Forsyth Correctional Center is TEMPORARILY suspended. We await the time we can bring new dog to FCC trainers, and begin again changing men's lives, one dog at a time. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay tuned.
We couldn't do this without your help.
Because Everyone Deserves A Second Chance
WHO WE ARE
The Piedmont Animal Welfare Alliance (PAWA) is an all-volunteer nonprofit in Forsyth County, NC. We partner with the Forsyth Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison, the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club, and we form alliances with area rescue groups to help dogs most in need.
A New Leash on Life (NLOL) is a N.C. state prison dog-training program, where both dogs and inmates get a second chance. Our dogs live and work with qualifying inmate-trainers for 10 weeks, learning nice manners and obedience, house and crate training, and basic agility.
ADOPT YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND!
It’s easy! Click on the Adoption Application button to the right to download a printable PDF form, and fill it out. Then you can get it to us any number of ways:
• scan it and email it to us at email@example.com
• take a photo of both sides and email it to us, at the above.
• mail it to P.O. Box 26661, Winston-Salem, NC 27114.
An adoption counselor will contact you to discuss your interest. If it seems a good fit, you can meet the dog and the trainer at the prison before making your final decision. When the dog completes his or her ten-week session, it’s adoption time!
Be sure to check out our loving dogs who are looking for a forever home! CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Because the prison is closed, we haven't brought a new class to the prison. As soon as things are safe, the prison is open, and we can go to shelters to assess new dogs, we'll be in the swing again. Check back with us soon. Click on the dog's picture for more information! Check our Facebook page New Leash on Life at Forsyth Correctional Center with PAWA for frequent updates.
YOU MAKE US HAPPEN
We receive no federal, state, United Way or other support, and we depend on animal lovers and champions of social justice to keep us going. 100%—One hundred percent—of your donation goes directly to the prison dog-training program.
We exist because of public support. We’d love yours! To help us, please donate.
Thank you to our generous sponsors!
